Partisan sports fan! Supported Accrington Stanley and served on Board of Directors. Visited Portsmouth as guest of Portsmouth F.C for that club's centenary (see Photo)
Was very good joiner could lay out very complex structures e.g. bay window frame with opening sections. Enoyed making new but not renovating old fittings. Did not work around home a lot.
Was working in workshop one Sat afternoon and cut end of his thumb on circular saw (18" dia blade with 1" long teeth!). Picked up the piece and took it to Accrington Victoria Hospital. They attempted to re-attach it but it did not take. They then opened a slit in his chest and sewed the thumb in to graft some flesh on to it. It was only partially successful and always looked like something foreign attached.
Very sociable, knew and was known by many people in the town. Great joker. | DAVIES, Jack (I178)
